French defender set to become Celtic’s second most expensive signing

Transfers & Rumours
Chris Jullien

Celtic are set to splash the cash with the £7 million signing of Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien, making him the Scottish champions’ second most expensive signing in the club’s history.

French newspaper L’Equipe have reported that the two clubs have ironed out a deal for the player and with personal terms agreed, the 26-year-old will undergo a medical before the weekend.

The signing of Jullien is a real statement of intent for Celtic and manager Neil Lennon as the club aim to win their ninth-title-in-a-row this season, and the defender should slot perfectly into the void left by Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata who left for Hertha Berlin at the end of last season.

Despite being linked with moves to Spain, England and Germany, Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell pushed the boat out for the Frenchman beating other potential suitors to the player’s signature.

Once the deal is officially announced, he will join Celtic’s pre-season training camp in Austria and Switzerland in preparation for the club kicking off their season with a first round qualifying tie against FK Sarajevo in the Champions League.

Barring any hitch in the player’s medical, Jullien will become Celtic’s second most expensive signing after the £9 million signing of French compatriot Odsonne Edouard from PSG last summer.
