Daily Record spread lies about Andy Robertson telling Tierney to leave CelticMedia, Opinion, Transfers & Rumours
Earlier today, Liverpool’s Andy Robertson had to come out and dismiss claims made on a Daily Record podcast – subsequently printed as fact – that he had advised his Scotland team mate Kieran Tierney to quit Celtic.
This is another clear attempt by the Scottish mainstream media to unsettle Celtic’s top players ahead of an important season the history of Celtic Football Club. And they must be called out for the liars that they are!
Self-confessed transfer consultant aka bullshitter Ian McGarry claimed that a conversation took place between Robertson and Tierney advising the 22-year-old to quit Celtic.
McGarry said: “The second thing that has changed for Kieran Tierney is speaking to his international teammate Andy Robertson.
“Having won the Champions League at the end of last season, he’s told Tierney ‘look, don’t default your career for the sake of staying at the club you support’.”
The Record and it’s Football Scotland pretend fan blog offshoot, further added ‘Robertson is also said to have told Tierney about the benefits of playing in the Premier League, and stressed that playing at a higher level is the only way to advance his career’.
Thankfully Robertson was quick to set the record straight, taking to his official twitter account the Scotland captain hit out, writing: “Lot of rubbish.”
Even before you contemplate the reasons for Ian McGarry and the Daily Record publishing lies, you have to question the morality of the Record and its contributors when they make up quotes attributed to Scotland’s national team captain. Will the Scottish FA be having words with the Record’s editor? Will Liverpool FC have words with Reach plc – the rebranded Trinity Mirror group – will Celtic be having words with the Record over a blatant lie that is almost certainly trying to unsettle one of their prized assets?
Whatever stance is taken from the clubs or Scotland’s football governing body – this is another incident where the Scottish mainstream media are peddling lies and fake quotes to sell more of their rags or more hits on their websites.
This also further adds to my point made in my previous article, about the SMSM trying to unsettle Celtic’s players, its supporters and manager by purposely peddling negative headlines, stories and links away from the club despite having no proof to back up said reports.
The inability or the unwillingness of Celtic’s hierarchy and PR department to hit out at these lies and negative stories should be questioned by the Celtic support and more importantly the shareholders as it could have an impact on their shareholding.
It is certainly not the first time that the SMSM have lied when it comes to Celtic, their manager or their players and it certainly won’t be the last time.
We all know they are longing for the day that Celtic are knocked off their perch and Rangers
